DIY: Envelope Pocket

You can find now on the Dear Lizzy blog two different DIY ideas to create with her newest collection (DIY CACTUS PIÑATA and DIY: ENVELOPE POCKET).

It is not a secret that I LOVE to make mini albums of my little adventures around the world, or even about the little things in life. But, lately, I realized that not only I enjoy to look back at the photos, or to rediscover the story through the album, but also to bring back all the memories with gathered memorabilia along the way.

The bright transparency from the new Happy Place line, gave me the idea to make a little cute envelope out of it. This is perfect to keep some tickets, business cards or even extra photos from my last summer vacation. It was super easy to make and I love the fun look of it. Let’s take a look on the steps to make this:

1. Pick the width of the envelope and trim the paper down. I find that 4×6 or 4×5 it is a good size for most minis and it is normally big enough to fit the usual memorabilia. So, I cut the 12×12 transparency into a 12×4 stripe. You can use an envelope template to serve you as a guide as well.

2. Fold the paper to create the pocket of the length you desire, and stitch the sides. Remember to leave a couple of inches on top in order to create a folded lid.

3. Now you have the basic structure completed. The tricky part is to choose how you want to close the envelope. In my case, I punched a couple of tiny holes to add two eyelets (one on the lid and one on the pocket) with a one-inch circle paper around. Then, I used a gold string that came with the Dear Lizzy tassels to tie the envelope shut.

4. As I final touch, I attached a couple of fun tassels from the Happy Place collection.

And done! Now go and grab some memorabilia and add this to your planner, a layout, a mini album, or even to your project life album (you can always punch two holes on a side or at the bottom to add it to a ring album). Let’s bring those memories alive! 

Gossamer Blue August Reveal

Estoy de vuelta con nuevas páginas para compartir hoy (ya siento las laaaaargas vacaciones del blog).

Ayer fue la presentación de los kits de Agosto en Gossamer Blue. ¡Siii! ¿Ya habéis echado un vistazo a sus kits? Si no es así, aseguraos de verlos aquí. Los kits de agosto están llenos de colores vibrantes y adornos divertidos, ideal para documentar esas pequeñas aventuras de verano!!

Sunday - mini album

Hello there!

As I commented before, this year I wanted to build up a bigger mini album collection. That is why I committed myself to create, at least, one mini album per month. We are almost done with March and I am so very happy because I have already done 4 mini albums. I also completed a This is me @26 Handbook before I turned 27 this February. Yaaay!!

Today, I share with you the fourth of these mini albums (you can see mini album one here, mini album two here and mini album three here). I got my inspiration from this XOXO mini album online class by Elizabeth Kartchner and I couldn't enjoy it more. It was simply delightful. I didn't get the kit offered for this class as I got most of her latest collection "Serendipity" on a American Crafts giveaway. Lucky me! I added as well some things from my stash, mostly products from Studio Calico kits. 

The original theme of the mini was Valentine's day but as I already did one with a similar theme (remember album three) I chose Sundays as my theme. I know, kind of weird haha but believe me, it was super fun to just document my favorite day or moment of the week in such a simple but wonderful way. :P

Hola!

Como comenté anteriormente, este año quería agrandar mi colección de mini álbumes. Es por eso que me comprometí a crear, al menos, una mini álbum por mes. Casi hemos terminado marzo y estoy muy muy feliz porque ya he hecho 4 mini álbumes y también he completado antes de cumplir 27 este mes de febrero, un album estilo Handbook sobre Esta soy yo a los 26. ¡¡Siiii !!

Hoy, os enseño el cuarto de estos mini álbumes (podéis ver el mini álbum uno aquí, mini álbum dos aquí y mini álbum tres aquí). Para este mini álbum me inspiré en el mini XOXO de la clase online ofrecida por Elizabeth Kartchner. Disfruté muchisimo con esta clase. Fue simplemente genial. No compré el kit ofrecido para esta clase ya que me tocó la mayor parte de su última colección "Serendipity" en un sorteo de American Crafts. ¡Qué suerte! He añadido también algunas cosas que tenía, en su mayoría productos de kits Studio Calico.

El tema original del mini, era el día de San Valentín, pero como ya hice uno con un tema similar ( álbum tres) elegí los domingos como mi tema. Lo sé, un tema un poco extraño jaja Pero creedme, fue super divertido documentar mi día favorito o mi momento favorito de la semana de una manera tan simple pero tan creativa :P

Time to relax

Hey guys!

I am sorry that it took me so long to post another project around here. You know, life got busy these past weeks and a gray weather haven't helped me either to get my photos taken. But at the same time I promised myself to take more time to relax, to snuggle on the sofa with a hot drink and breathe... at least during the weekends. 

And these thoughts are the ones that inspired me to create today's layout (and more to come). I also got inspired by Marcy Penner's work. I am sure you already know this incredible artist but if you don't, be sure to check out her work here. I love how she mixes and clusters different pattern papers on her pages and how well it works with little embellishment clusters, subtle photos and white backgrounds.

So, with all that in mind and the Studio Calico Odyssey kit on my hands, I went ahead and had fun creating this page. I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

¡Hola chicos!

Ya siento que me tomara tanto tiempo publicar otro proyecto por aquí. Estas últimas semanas han sido de mucho trabajo y además que el tiempo este tan gris, no me ha ayudado nada a la hora de sacar unas buenas fotos. Pero me he prometido a mí misma tomarme más tiempo para relajarme, acurrucarme en el sofá con una bebida caliente y respirar profundamente ... por lo menos durante los fines de semana.

Y estos pensamientos son los que me inspiraron para crear la lámina de hoy (y alguna más por venir). También me inspiré en el trabajo de Marcy Penner. Estoy segura de que ya conocéis a este artistaza tan increíble, pero por si no es así, aquí podéis encontrar sus proyectos. Me encanta cómo mezcla y agrupa diferentes papeles en sus páginas y lo bien que trabaja con pequeños grupos de adornos, fotos sutiles y fondos blancos.

Así que, con todo esto en mente y el kit Odyssey de Studio Calico en mis manos, me puse a crear esta página. ¡Espero que hayáis tenido un fin de semana genial!

Hello,

I hope you had a lovely weekend. I spent most of mine scrapping at home while outside was pouring and snowing. And you know, with this weather, after a long week and a previous weekend exploring Madrid, it felt right to stay home for a while. It was pretty fun as I already had tons of ideas before I actually sat down but it was also kind of challenging at first. It always feels that way whenever I don't scrap for a while. I guess is one of those things that the most you practice the better, don't you think?

So, this was the first page I made (I ended up creating 3 and a mini album, so proud of myself). As you may already noticed, this one was inspired by the awesome Wilna Furstenberg. I love how she incorporates mix media and art elements to the layouts in such a pretty but easy way. First, I cut the paint splatters with my Silhouette Portrait and then I painted them with acrylic paint. I chose the green palette so it will match my niece's clothes. She is starting to show interest in painting and playing with stickers and so. So cute! To continue with this theme, I added a few embellishments related to crafts as the pencils, brush, scissors and the rule. And done!

Espero que hayáis tenido un buen fin de semana. Yo he pasado la mayor parte del mío escrapeando en casa al calorcito mientras fuera llovía y/o nevaba. Y ya sabéis, con este tiempo, después de una semana de duro trabajo y de un fin de semana anterior explorando Madrid, tenía ganas de quedarme en casa por un tiempo. Fue muy divertido, ya tenía un montón de ideas antes incluso de sentarme pero también me costó un poco comenzar. Siempre me pasa lo mismo cada vez que no escrapeo durante un tiempo. Supongo que es una de esas cosa cuanto más practicas mejor, ¿no creéis?

Esta es la primera página que hice (acabé creando 3 y un mini álbum, super orgullosa de mí misma). Como ya habréis notado, me inspiré en el impresionante Wilna Furstenberg. Me encanta cómo incorpora mix media y elementos artísticos a las páginas de una manera tan bonita pero a la vez tan sencilla. En primer lugar, recorté las salpicaduras de pintura con mi Silhouette y luego los pinté con pintura acrílica. Elegí la paleta de verdes para que fuera a juego con la ropa de mi sobrina. Está empezando a mostrar interés por la pintura y a jugar con pegatinas y así. Tan mona... Para continuar con este tema, he añadido algunos adornos relacionados con las manualidades como los lápices, pincel, tijeras y la regla. ¡Y listo!

Free your heart

Good Morning everyone,

I know I have said it like million or billion times before but seriously Elizabeth Kartchner is always an inspiration for me. I love her products, her pages, and let's admit it, her happy little life too. I was so happy when she joined the Studio Calico Creative Team because I enjoy so much seeing how she uses the monthly kits.

And why did I mention this? Well, because this page was absolutely inspired by this page from her (find it here). Gorgeous, right? So I tried to do my best with the same sketch but I adapted the colors and embellishments to match the photos from Santa Monica beach and Pier.

Buenos días a todos,

Sé que ya lo he dicho un millon o miles de millones de veces antes, pero en serio Elizabeth Kartchner es siempre una fuente de inspiración para mí. Me encantan sus productos, sus páginas, y admitámoslo, su pequeña vida feliz también. Fue genial ver que se unía al equipo creativo de Studio Calico este año ya que disfruto mucho viendo cómo utiliza los kits mensuales.

¿Y por qué menciono esto? Bueno, porque esta página esta absolutamente inspirada en esta otra página de ella (podéis encontrarla aquí). Magnífica, ¿verdad? Así que traté de hacerlo lo mejor posible con el mismo diseño pero adaptando los colores y los adornos para que coincidieran con las fotos de la playa de Santa Mónica y y el muelle.

Oh hello love

Hi there,

Just sharing today the first layout that I made with the Penny Arcade Scrapbooking kit and a couple of add-ons by Studio Calico. I haven't finished yet using the kits from previous months but I couldn't wait to dig into these one! What I love the most about these, is the wide range of embellishment's type. 

Only with a quick look at my page you can see of what I am talking about ;) ... those cute banners, the wood veneer phrases and numbers, the diamond chipboards, the doily, the rub-ons of gold stars,the puffy stickers ... and as always their fabulous stamps.

For the design I was inspired by the Studio Calico Sunday Sketch from a couple of weeks ago; which you can find here. I love how they choose a page from the DT gallery and challenge you to use it as a start point from your own creations. Which is great for me right now! I can hardly find time to scrap this summer so these challenges make everything much easier and faster, as I already start with an idea in mind and with the perfect kit to create it.

From there, the whole page came together really fast. I love the soft/dreamy color palette that I used, although it is a bit more girlie that what I am more used to but I like it anyways! And I think it combines perfectly well with the family portrait, don't you think?

Hoy me paso por aquí muy rápido para compartir la primera página que he creado con el kit de Scrapbooking de Studio Calico Penny Arcade junto con alguno de sus kits adicionales. Todavía no he terminado de utilizar los kits de los meses anteriores, pero no me pude resistir a adelantarme y empezar a usar este. Lo que más me gusta acerca de los kits de este mes, es la amplia gama de adornos presentes en ellos. 

Sólo con una rápida mirada a mi página podeis ver de lo que estoy hablando ;) ... esas banderas tan monas, esas frases de madera y los numeros, las pegatinas variadas, los rombos con letterpress dorado, los rub-ons de estrellas doradas... y como siempre sus fabulosos sellos.

Para el diseño me inspiré en el Sketch del domingo de Studio Calico de hace un par de semanas el cual podéis encontrar aquí. Me encanta que elijan una página de la galería de DT y te reten a usarlo como punto de partida para nuestras propias creaciones. Este verano, me esta costando encontrar tiempo para escrapear por lo que estos desafíos hacen que todo sea mucho más fácil y más rápido, ya que parto con una idea en mente y con un kit perfecto para tomar el relevo.

A partir de ahí, la página vino rodada. Me encanta la paleta de colores suaves / de ensueño que he usado, aunque es un poco más femenina que de costumbre, ¡me gusta de todos modos! Y creo que combina perfectamente con el retrato de la familia, ¿no os parece?

Happy Sunday!

Just sharing here really quick two pages that I made yesterday inspired by the fabulous first video by Ginny (find it here). Do you already know her? She always amazes me with her unique ideas and designs. She is truly one of the best for me (find her gallery at Studio Calico here).

So these are the pages. I went and did one 12x12 layout.

And one 6x8 layout to include in my Summer Handbook. Seriously, working on an smaller size is really becoming a passion for me. Let's see where this takes me. ;)

¡Feliz domingo!

Me paso muy rápido por aquí hoy para compartir dos páginas que hice ayer inspiradas en el fabuloso primer video de Ginny (podéis encontrarlo aquí). ¿Ya la conoces? Ella siempre consigue alucinarme con sus originales ideas y diseños. Para mí es verdaderamente una de los mejores sin duda (podéis encontrarla en la galería de Studio Calico aquí).

Estas son las páginas. Por un lado hice una página 12x12 y por el otro una de 6x8 para incluir en mi Handbook album sobre este verano. En serio, trabajar en un tamaño más pequeño se esta convirtiendo en una obsesión para mí. Ya veremos a donde me lleva esto. ;)
